FAA work in five states since 1994.
Airfield lighting and navaid sites, FAA work since 1994
Capability
Cal Electro has built airport construction and airfield electrical since 1994: runway lighting, taxiway and apron work, REIL, PAPI guidance systems, MALSR approach systems, MIRL, guidance signs, AWOS weather stations, VORTAC antennas and DASR radar sites from Monterey to Barstow. The FAA work spans California, Nevada, Arizona, Kansas and Hawaii.
The radar and navigational aid sites carry the earthwork, grading, foundation construction, CMU buildings, tower erection, grounding systems, power and communication conduits and diesel fuel systems that go underneath them. The most recent award is the Runway 18-36 rehabilitation at Del Norte County Airport, $739,710 in 2025: 70 MIRL lights, 21 guidance signs, and the trenching and wiring behind them.
Trenching, duct bank, bases and counterpoise are self-performed, which is what keeps runway closure windows short.
- Active runways
- Work sequenced around operations, with lighting returned to service for each night’s closure end.
- FAA-funded programs
- AIP grant work delivered to FAA construction and inspection standards.
- Remote radar sites
- DASR and navaid sites on mountaintops and desert ranges, with access and generation constraints.
